In ROB 101, students get hands-on from day one. Each team builds and commissions their own AR4 robot. The curriculum centers on a semester-long project where students program their AR4 to autonomously navigate a mock factory floor, pick up raw materials from a conveyor belt, and assemble them into a simple product. This project teaches the entire robotics pipeline from kinematics to sensor integration and task sequencing.

The AR4 was my top robot choice to teach in my robotics classes because...
👉
it encourages project-based learning and student innovation.
👉
it has ROS (Robot Operating System) support for advanced programming.
👉
it offers a clear path from simple commands to complex programs.
👉
its aluminum construction made it the most durable educational robot on the market.
👉
students build it from scratch for unparalleled hands-on learning.
👉
students can control it using an Xbox controller for hands-on learning.
👉
the compact size fits safely on any lab bench.
👉
the software interface is intuitive for beginners.
