Can the AR4 be used to rake pine needles in a yard?

While we don’t offer a pre-made kit for this specific task, here’s how you could build a custom solution:

Option 1: Build a Custom Raking Robot #

For full customization, we recommend:

  • Base Platform: Start with a robust outdoor mobile chassis (4-wheel or tracked) with high ground clearance, such as models from SuperDroid or a Rover-style kit.
  • Control System: Use a programmable ROS-compatible controller or microcontroller (e.g., Arduino/Raspberry Pi) with motor drivers.
  • Rake Attachment: Design a custom rake tool (3D-printed or metal) powered by a servo or linear actuator, mounted to the robot.

Option 2: Adapt an Existing Robot #

Some users have mounted our AR4 robotic arm to mobile platforms for outdoor tasks. You could attach a custom rake end-effector to the arm for targeted raking.

Option 3: Robotic Lawn Mowers (For Maintenance) #

While not designed for raking, robotic mowers with mulching capabilities can help manage light debris over time:

  • Husqvarna Automower 115H: Compact, reliable, and mulches grass/debris.
  • BESTMOW Titan‑100: Self-charging, suitable for larger yards, and operates quietly.

These mowers won’t rake pine needles directly but can break down organic debris gradually.
