Hello everybody,

I am ordering the pneumatic gripper for the AR3 robot, however I noticed that in the manual the gripper shown has a cable attached to it. The grippers I am looking at online do not have cables attached to them, and I was wondering whether or not you need a cable with the gripper you are using?

Hi Daniel,

The gripper referred to in the manual has 2 x pneumatic lines coming into it. No cables. You can see a proper installation of it on the front cover of the manual.

I can see that the picture of the gripper in the Bill of Materials depicts a used assembly for 2nd-hand resale, not a new one. So, the cable you see coming out if in that picture could have been retrofitted for anything... but it is certainly not needed for the gripper to work as it is pneumatic.

Note, you will also need a solenoid, and this apparatus did not come with my gripper. The required solenoid is not listed in the Bill of Materials; so refer to Chapter 5 and you will see a picture of it.

On the gripper topic I purchased a gripper and solenoid but haven't got it hooked up yet. What air pressure is needed to operate the gripper?

As we do not have any pneumatics, I need to buy all the things to make the pneumatic gripper work. Can anyone point me to the components necessary. So far I understood I need a compressor, a tank and a solenoid valve? Is that correct and if so, what are your recommendations?
