Routing / carving requires a good amount of lateral force, something that is diffficult to acheve consistently due to the long extension of the arm through all of its joints. Mounting tools that do not create lateral forces, such as lasers or extruders is viable, but personally I wouldn't attempt to install a heavy spindle.
