Fried Power Supply 24V

I've just completed assembly AR4 and startup commissioning step by step. I've checked all motor rotation, direction, limit switches. All are working fine. Then, I checked Calibration each joint individually from J1 to J6 and all of them could move without problem.

Until i pressed Auto Calibration, J1, J1, J3 could set home completely, and then J4 rotate untit it touched limit switch. From that moment, 24V supply just suddenly no output (green LED on the power supply adapter was gone). I removed power supply to check it without load, it was really broken.

I think problem might me because the J4 limit switch wire was pulled until it touched the robot chassis and caused the short circuit which i'll try to fix it before I power up with the new power supply.

One more thing, i feel the 24V fan has really loud noise. I think it's because the fan ventilate step motor drive which are packed up in limited space. This might not be a big problem but more or less, i think fan is working high load which may cause the high current for 24V.

I'm ordering Meanwell switching power supply LRS-350-24 to replace and will add a 7.5 Amp 24VDC fuse before supply power to robot. Do you think this will help protection better? If you have any recommendation for this problem would be appreciate.

I have not had anyone report a bad 24v power supply previously. Shorting the limit switch should not affect the 24v supply. The fans are noisy - Im working on getting quieter ones. The power supply should have an internal fuse but adding an additional certainly wouldn't hurt. Please keep me posted on your progress and any issues you have.

Chris Annin I've and installed new 24V power supply today (Meanwell LRS-305-24 with added fuse) and robot can be moved normally. i've run through Autocalibration all axis without problem. So, i supposed it was just the issue with power supply itself. I've tried to check and not found any short or broken wire. I'll go further next step to add servo gripper. I'll keep you posted if still have problem with 24V in long run or not. Thanks for your advice.

The Noctua NF-A4x10 24V PWM is extremely quiet

Be careful your link is for a 12V fan, one needs a 24V for the AR4

Gilles SAUVAGNAT That's an interesting upgrade. I used to have one Noctua fan for jetson nano board. Its performance is really good and very quiet. I'll consider to upgrade it after everything is well setup.

I have experienced a very similar problem with my AR4, so I wanted to ask if anyone has found the exact cause or a reliable solution.

I recently bought the upgraded AR4 complete electrical kit with the included power adapter (LYD2409000). The robot worked fine for about one week, but suddenly the 24V power supply stopped working completely. The green LED on the adapter no longer turns on, even when no load is connected, so the power supply itself seems to have failed.

Jente Peeters Meanwell For my case, I've replaced the broken LYD2409000 to be Meanwell LRS-305-24 and it has no problem any more. I think LRS-305-24 is for industrial use and be more reliable.
