J2 Motor Gearbox backlash

I'm installing until the process of inserting J2 Motor into the Spindle. I've put the shaft into spindle for a quarter but i can feel the backlash from the gearbox when I rotate. I'm quite sure i'm not break any gear when i disassemble and re-install the gearbox.

I'm just curious is this backlash is normal or not? Will the backlash be disappeared when there is power supply to motor?

I would like to re-confirm this gearbox is in good condition before i fully insert the shaft into the spindle. Because it will be very difficult to remove it later.

Hello, The J2 gearbox has a listed backlash of 15 arcmin which is .25°. I recently discovered as you did, that the gearmotor I purchased last week had as much as .6° backlash which is not acceptable. I have contacted Stepperonline and they have pulled and checked all their stock in China and Germany and found some isolated manufacturing issues. They have replaced all effected stock with corrected or remanufactured units. They have asked that any customers who currently have this issue email them at cs09@omc-stepperonline.com

Their staff will respond and handle sending you a replacement gear box and returning the effected unit.

I apologize for this issue and I will do everything I can to help correct it.

Thanks for your verification. I'll try to contact to Stepperonline for the replacement. I'll keep update to you for the improvement after replacement as well.

I was wondering about this as well during my recent and ongoing assembly and debugging. It's difficult for me to quantify whether there's too much backlash, though, but there's certainly more on J2 than on the other joints. I will contact Stepper online and ask if my unit is among the affected batches.
