Any thoughs about implementing torque senzors?

A am interested in making AR4 a collaborative robot and recently I found project on github: https://github.com/TAMS-Group/tams_printed_ft I thought it would be interesting to implement collision detection and maybe direct path teaching via 6-axis force/torque sensor and not to spend fortune on it.
